For those who prefer an older-style, more intimate Princess experience, it might be a ship to skip. And while the Signature Lounge is logically nestled among the biggest suites on Deck 16, it's relatively modest in size and not well tied into the suites around it. Previously known as the Club Class, guests booked in the most ideally located mini-suites and cabana staterooms can access an exclusive restaurant as well, the Reserve Collection Restaurant. This private restaurant serves an elevated version of the main dining room menu, with a few distinct selections each night.
Other small changes aboard Sun Princess are still present, including the renaming of Kai Sushi by Makoto to Makoto Ocean -- a last-minute change that will require the ship's signage to be swapped out at some point. Until then, the venue is referred to by both terms depending on which source you read (the website, deck plan or Princess Patter). Windows grace nearly every public room, flooding them with natural light and sea views that are both appreciated and, these days, increasingly rare on big ships that tend to be quite inward-facing.
For the first time since the 1990s, Princess has entirely re-thought its cabin design and layout. And while cabins on Sun Princess share some structural similarities with Carnival's Excel-class ships (think Mardi Gras, Carnival Celebration and Carnival Jubilee), fittings, fixtures and soft furnishings are all different and elevated. The lower level (deck 5) consists of Relax Room, Treatment Rooms (for massages), Showers and Changing Rooms (male/female). On Lido Deck (deck 17) are the ship's swimming pools and outdoor Jacuzzies/whirlpools with a spacious sundeck served by 3 Poolside Bars (open-air venues for fast food and beverages) - 1 forward (Sea View Bar) + 2 midship (Coffee & Cones, THE MIX).
One of the more interesting things Princess has done with Sun Princess is to completely reimagine the dining experience in a subtle but meaningful way. Timeless classics like The Catch by Rudi, Crown Grill, Sabatini’s, and Alfredo’s Pizzeria haven’t been forgotten and are better than ever, with the latter featuring a wood-fired pizza oven and new alfresco seating area. There’s also a new spot for casual bites, plus a revamped World Fresh Marketplace. Sun Princess also has several new cabin classes, including a row of Cabana mini-suites on Deck 9 that have their own private terrace with sun loungers and a hot tub. If you’re travelling with a large enough group, you can book out all of these rooms and make this space your own. The ship has a 2-level Signature Lounge (aka Suite Lounge) exclusive to Suite passengers. The Suite Lounge (aft on decks 15-16) provides complimentary snacks and beverages, comfortable seating, restrooms, and is directly accessed by two lifts/elevators. An extension of the Eatery, there are additional quick service stations outside on the Deck 9 promenade. Offering menu items similar to Lido Eats up on the pool deck, the Promenade features dining stations and a bar on each side of the ship. A first for Princess Cruises, the Horizons Dining Room is a stunning three-story venue.
